Laser-cut Art Workshop
Join us for a unique opportunity to create a multi-layered birch plywood art piece representing Fort Collins, Colorado, designed by Robert. Participants will learn about laser cutting technology, assemble pre-cut layers with custom color combinations, and apply professional finishing techniques, resulting in a beautiful, ready-to-display art piece (5" by 5").

Design, build, and beautify! Experience the magic of layered wood art from start to finish.
Phase 1
Welcome & Layer Staining
After an introduction to laser cutting with a live demonstration, it's your turn to get hands-on. You'll receive your raw, pre-cut layers and transform them by choosing and applying from a variety of vibrant wood stains. While your pieces dry, we'll give you a behind-the-scenes look at the digital design process in Adobe Illustrator.
Phase 2
Gluing & Vacuum Pressing
This phase guides participants through the precise assembly of their layered artwork. You will learn to correctly lay out and number the layers, apply wood glue, and use an alignment jig to ensure perfect stacking. Finally, you'll secure your piece with tape and use a vacuum press for strong, even adhesion.
Phase 3
Finishing & Spray Station
This phase focuses on refining your art piece with finishing touches. You'll clean up any excess glue before learning how to apply a professional protective poly spray. This ensures your piece gains durability and a beautiful sheen. You'll have the option to spray your own piece under supervision. *Break for finish to dry.

Who is this for?
Whether you're an aspiring artist, a DIY enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique experience, this workshop is for you! (Ages 16+ welcome).
How big is the piece?
Your finished art piece will be 5 inches by 5 inches (1/2 inch thick). It has a magnet and a center hanging point on the back.
Will I cut the pieces myself?
While we'll demonstrate the laser-cutting process on our Glowforge, all your art piece layers will be pre-cut for efficiency, allowing you to focus on staining, assembly, and finishing.
What do I need to bring?
Just bring your enthusiasm! All materials, tools, and safety gear are provided for you. Be sure to wear clothes that can get a little messy (especially with glue and stain).
Can I pick my own colors?
Absolutely! You'll have a vibrant selection of stain colors for each of the four layers, allowing you to give your piece a personal touch.
Can I take the piece home?
Yes, absolutely! Your completed art piece will be fully dry and ready for you to take home the very same day.
